POET inks pact on technology


POET Research Inc. has signed a technology collaboration joint development agreement with Agrivida Inc. in the field of cellulosic ethanol.
Agrivida is a developer of biotechnology platforms for feedstock and feedstock processing, POET Research Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of POET LLC, parent company of POET Biorefining of Portland.
Under the terms of the four-year agreement, the two companies will develop Agrivida’s technology platforms with the goal of significantly reducing the capital and operating costs of commercial cellulosic ethanol production.
The two companies will develop and test Agrivida’s engineered corn stover feedstock and processing technology for integration with POET’s existing cellulosic technology.
Agrivida, based in Medford, Mass., is developing traits engineered to improve the pretreatment of corn stover and make it easier to break down cellulose while reducing the cost of enzymatic application.
Corn stover consists of the leaves and stalks left in a cornfield after harvest.

Tyson honored
Tyson Foods, parent company of Tyson Mexican Original of Portland, has been honored by the Arkansas Wildlife Federation as Corporate Conservationist of the Year.
The company was recognized for adopting sustainable packaging, reducing water consumption, reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills, and for large-scale recycling efforts.

Award received
Emmy’s Bridal of Minster, Ohio, recently received a social media award.
The International Prom Association gave the Award for Social Media Excellence to the dress company owned by Lori Rindler and Anne Puthoff. The award is given to stores who are effectively using social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, e-mail, and web site development to connect with their customers.

Dividend announced
Old National Bank subsidiary Indiana Community Bancorp, the holding company of Indiana Bank and Trust Company, recently announced a third-quarter dividend of 1 cent per share.
The dividend will be paid on Sept. 14 to all shareholders of record on Sept. 7. Old National Bank has a branch at 910 N. Meridian in Portland.

PayPal expanding
In a partnership with Discover Financial Services, PayPal will be expanding its online payment services to stores across the U.S. Beginning next year, retailers who accept Discover cards will be able to process PayPal payments. Customers are expected to be able to pay with Paypal cards and, later, mobile devices.
