Poindexter foils JC girls soccer (09/19/05)
JCHS girls soccer
CENTERVILLE — Having the lead wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
The Centerville Bulldogs held the advantage twice in the first half, only to have Jay County’s girls soccer team even the score both times. The Patriots then jumped out to a two-goal lead after the break, but Centerville came roaring back to take a 5-4 victory.
The Bulldogs scored three times in a span of less than 10 minutes, erasing Jay County’s 4-2 lead. They then held on for the final 14:07 to claim the win.
Two of those three second-half Centerville goals came from Kaelan Poindexter, who also had a pair of goals in the opening half.
She started the scoring 12:25 into the contest, getting a shot to deflect off JCHS goalie Abby Loy’s hands. The lead didn’t last long as Patriot sophomore Tequila Guntle scored on a rebound about a minute later.
Poindexter scored again with about 25 minutes to go in the half to put Centerville up 2-1. Jay County answered less than two minutes later as senior Saffron Redwine evened the score.
Abby Schmiesing scored both of the Patriots’ second-half goals, the first on an assist from Sara Garringer, for the 4-2 lead only to have Poindexter and the Bulldogs rally back for the victory.
Jay County (3-4-2) took 13 shots on goal in the defeat as Guntle finished with four and Redwine had three. Schmiesing and Cassandra Huelskamp took two shots apiece.
Centerville had 14 shots on goal with Poindexter connecting on each of her four attempts.
Loy totaled nine saves for the Patriots.[[In-content Ad]]
