Pond clinic planned (6/29/04)

Taking Note

Purdue University and Jay County Extension will sponsor a pond clinic in the Jay County Public Library Community Room on Wednesday, July 7, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. John Knipp, Area VII Aquatic Educator from Purdue University, will be the speaker.

The topics covered will be environmental factors for farm ponds and farm ponds weed control and an update on chemical control. The clinic is free and for anyone interested in building a pond or who already has a pond.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

Fort Recovery High School awarded vocational scholarships to juniors and seniors who are taking a vocational program through the high school or Tri-Star Career Compact.

Receiving scholarships were Brianna Hess, Matt Laux, Craig Link, Ben Osterholt, Lana Ranly, Renee Schmackers, Michelle Schoenlein, Nick Sutter, Alan Will and Eric Weitzel.

The Fort Recovery FFA Chapter announced its new officers for the 2004-2005 school year.

The new officers include President, Jackie Lennartz; Vice President, Mary Will; Assistant Vice President, Dale Brunswick; Treasurer, Josh Gaerke; Secretary, Rachel Will; Reporter, Beth Lennartz; Assistant Reporter, Kelsie Will; Sentinel, Mike Schoenlein, and Student advisor, Adam Sutter.

The Fort Recovery FFA Chapter attended the State FFA Convention where Matt Fortkamp, Deanna Lennartz and Eric Weitzel were State FFA Proficiency Finalists.

Matt Fortkamp placed first in the state for the Poultry Placement Proficiency Award. He is the son of Paul and Ginny Fortkamp and works for Paul Fortkamp Farms and LeFevre Farms.

Deanna Lennartz placed first in the Nursery Operations Proficiency Award for her employment at Natures Green Nursery. She is the daughter of Tom and Cathy Lennartz.

Eric Weitzel placed first in the Diversified Livestock Production Proficiency Award for his employment at Broering Farms. He is the son of Norb and Betty Weitzel.



RECEIVES DEGREE

Lisa Marie Dunmoyer graduated from Michiana College in Fort Wayne on June 25 with an associate’s degree in Occupational Therapy (Assistant).

She is a 1995 graduate of South Adams High School and is the daughter of Virgil Nevil, Union City, and Jeanette Truppi, Boca Raton, Fla.

She is employed at Curves for Women in Berne as a fitness technition.
