Portland native writes winning essay

Lincoln Reichard, a former Portland resident, won the grand prize in the Golden Lunchables Awards Contest and Sweepstakes "Best Brain" category.
Lincoln, 12, the son of Russ and Susan Reichard, wrote an essay of how he found comfort in reading and reading with his mom while his dad was deployed to Iraq.
Lincoln's essay won first place and a trip for four to the Nickelodeon Resort in Orlando, Fla., which includes airfare, hotel accommodations and $1,000 spending money.
Lincoln's mom Susan was former executive director for the United Way of Jay County. His grandparents are David Lyons, Diana Lyons and Frances Brown, all of Portland.
