Portland rolls over Expos
FORT WAYNE — The Rockets split games with the Fort Wayne Expos during the Firecracker Classic. Their early fireworks led to a doubleheader sweep Sunday.
The Portland Rockets got on top early in both games Saturday, taking a pair from the host Expos 12-2 in five innings and 6-4 at Carrington Field.
Wasting no time in taking control, the Rockets (17-10) batted around in the first inning of the opener as they scored five runs. They racked up 16 hits as they finished off the game early.
South Adams High School graduate Dan Bollenbacher tossed four innings for the win and struck out five batters. Wesley Hibbard, Jay County class of 2014, pitched scoreless in relief in his Portland debut.
The Rockets built a 6-0 lead in the first three innings of the second game and then held on for the win.
Tyler Reynolds struck out four in four-plus innings for the win, and Matt Helm came through in relief.
Dalton Tinsley led the explosive offensive effort with five hits in the doubleheader. Mitch Waters (Jay County) had four hits and four runs, and Collin Affolder (South Adams), Geoff Bowers and T.J. Lindstrand also added four hits apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
