Portland's Arnold places third

MUNCIE — A Portland boy was among the top competitors at Sunday’s Muncie TOUGHKids Triathlon.
Tucker Arnold turned in a third-place effort in the 4-to-6-year-old division, finishing in 6 minutes, 51 seconds. His event included a 25-meter swim, half-mile bike and 100-yard run.
Ashlyn Dow, also of Portland, placed 11th in the 7-10-year-old division (100-meter swim, 1.6-mile bike, half-mile run) with a time of 16:28. Audrey Shreve, Redkey, was 15th in the 11-14-year-old division (200-meter swim, 3.2-mile bike, 1-mile run) as she finished in 28:11.

Shreve 9th in decathlon
FRANKLIN — Jay County High School junior Zane Shreve placed ninth in the young men’s decathlon at the USA Track and Field Region 7 Junior Olympic Championships, which were held Thursday through Sunday at Franklin College.
Shreve scored 4,263 points to finish ninth out of 13 competitors in the decathlon. His best effort came in the 1,500 run as he took first place in 4 minutes, 59.91 seconds, and he was also fifth in the high jump (5 feet, 9¾ inches) and seventh in the 110 hurdles (17.14).
Brad Leuthold, a JCHS graduate, also competed in several decathlon events with his top finish coming with a time of 55.62 in the 400 dash to take eighth place.

Jay 3rd at camp
BLOOMINGTON — The Jay County High School cheerleading squad placed third in the medium varsity category in the camp championships at the Universal Cheerleader’s Association camp June 24 through 27 at Indiana University.
JCHS, which trailed Tri-West and Bloomington South in the camp championships, also received a superior trophy for its work during the week. It also earned two blue ribbons in daily evaluations and the spirit stick award each day.
Seniors Jenna Barber and Alexis Cook were honored as All Americans and invited to apply to be UCA instructors.[[In-content Ad]]
