Pottkotter leads Tribe in tourney

CONVOY, Ohio - Nicole Pottkotter was named to the all-tournament team Saturday as the Fort Recovery High School volleyball team finished 2-1 at the PEPSI Lady Knight Invitational hosted by Crestview.
The Indians defeated Edison 25-16, 25-21 and avenged an earlier loss by topping Celina 25-22, 19-25, 25-16. Their only loss of the tournament came by a 27-25, 25-20 score to Division IV No. 4 St. Paul.
Marion Local, which is undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Division IV, topped St. Paul in the championship match.
SA boys soccer falls
NORTH MANCHESTER - The South Adams boys soccer team fell behind 3-0 Saturday on the way to a 4-2 loss to the Manchester Squires.
Manchester took control quickly before the Starfires were able to get on the scoreboard when Eduardo Torres assisted on a goal by T.J. Burnfield with 9:26 left in the first half. SAHS pulled to within one when the Squires' goalie couldn't corral a corner kick by Zack Sharp and Torres was there to knock it in for the score.
However, Manchester responded with a tally of its own for the two-goal final margin.
Tribe gridders win
FORT RECOVERY - Shane Brunswick and Derek Gaerke powered the Fort Recovery junior varsity football team to a 22-6 victory Saturday over the New Bremen Cardinals.
Brunswick and Gaerke opened the scoring as they connected on a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. In the third Brunswick hit Gaerke with an 82-yard scoring strike, and Brunswick ran for a 30-yard TD in the fourth.
Jason Pottkotter and Ethan Sheridan each caught 2-point conversion passes from Brunswick.
EJ 8th places 2nd
East Jay Middle School's eighth grade volleyball team finished second as hosts of Saturday's East Jay Invitational while the seventh graders took third place.
The Chief eighth grade squad topped Muncie Wilson, Bluffton and Southern Wells before falling to Adams Central in the championship match. The seventh grade team lost its opener against Wilson, but bounced back for wins over Bluffton, South Adams and Dennis (Richmond).
Katlin Petro powered the EJMS eighth graders with team highs of 40 points and 18 kills. Katie Aker had 22 points and 10 digs, Tasya Smith totaled 17 digs and Baily Weatherhead put up nine assists.
Jessica Kerrigan had 30 points, including 19 aces, and 32 assists for the seventh grade team (14-4). Michelle Wellman finished with 32 points, 20 aces and 15 digs, and Catherine Dunn added 15 kills and 14 digs.[[In-content Ad]]
