Practice for JC golf set (07/19/2008)

It may still be the middle of summer, but high school sports is just about to get underway.

Those participating on the Jay County High School girls golf team are reminded that daily practice begins Monday.

Practices, which will be held at Portland Golf Club, will be from 9 to 11 a.m., coach Tom Ferguson announced this week.

Rockets in action

The red-hot Portland Rockets will try to keep their winning ways alive this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders on their home field.

The Rockets will host the Indy Thrashers on Saturday and the Northwest Patriots on Sunday. First pitch for both doubleheaders is 1 p.m.

Jay County High School graduate Mitch Waters will be the starting pitcher for the Rockets in one of the two games on Saturday.

Sunday is golf cart day at Runkle-Miller Field, located in Portland's Memorial Park on Blaine Pike.
