Prescott 1st in wins, money (05/15/04)

Local Roundup

Jay County native Rodney Prescott has not only been one of the busiest jockeys during the opening month of the current meet at Indiana Downs near Shelbyville, he’s also been the best.

Prescott, now a veteran at several tracks in Indiana and Kentucky, is the leading jockey as measured by both wins and earnings.

Through Tuesday, horses ridden by Prescott had won 34 races and had earned a total of $252,669.

In a total of 135 mounts, Prescott had also finished second 21 times and third 14 times.

Orlando Mojica, who finished just ahead of Prescott in the jockey standings during the fall of 2003 meet at Hoosier Park in Anderson, is No. 2 in the jockey standings.

Thoroughbred racing continues at Indiana Downs through Sunday, June 20.

Indiana Downs is located just off Interstate 74, about 20 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
