Prescott third in victories (10/31/03)

Rodney Prescott, a professional jockey and native of Jay County, continues to ride near the top of the list of most successful jockeys during the fall meet at Hoosier Park in Anderson.
Prescott, who races at several tracks in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, has won 48 races in 338 starts during the first two months of the current Hoosier Park meet, ranking him third in that category.
Prescott’s mounts have earned $452,589 — second behind the earnings of Orlando Mojica, who has 62 wins in 363 starts.
Horses ridden by Prescott have finished first, second or third 124 times, giving him top three average of 37 percent.
The current meet at Hoosier Park ends Thursday, Dec. 4. Live racing is offered Wednesdays through Sundays, with first post at approximately 6 p.m.
Fall ceremony
The Jay County High School fall sports awards ceremony will be Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
The event will be held in JCHS commons. There will be no meal this year, but cookies and drinks will be served.
Community Center
The Jay Community Center is now accepting registrations for several upcoming activities.
The men’s 3-on-3 basketball league will begin play Sunday, Nov. 16.
Also, Little Dribblers and youth basketball games for boys and girls ages 4 through 9 are scheduled to begin Saturday, Dec. 6.
The registration deadline for both leagues is Friday, Nov. 1.

Turkey chase
Wayne and Union County Easter Seals will host at turkey chase Saturday, Nov. 15. The event will include a 7k road race, a 2 1/2 mile historic walk, a one-mile fun run and a kiddie run.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m. on the day of the event in the Centerville High School auxiliary gym west of the football field. The kiddie run will start at noon with the fun run at 12:30 p.m. and the 7K at 1 p.m.
The entry fee for those who sign up by Nov. 12 is $14 for the 7K, $14 for the walk and $2 for the fun run. There is no entry fee for the kiddie run.

The D.C. Lightning baseball team for 10-year-olds is preparing for the 2004 season.
The team plays various area teams, as well as some from Kentucky and Ohio. Games are played under high school rules.
