Program about plants scheduled (09/06/07)
Taking Note
The Jay County High School horticulture department and Purdue Cooperative Extension will have a "Care of Houseplants" program on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m. The program will be held in the JCHS greenhouse.

Awards ceremony
Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., Portland will hold the opening reception and awards ceremony of the Seventh Harvest Biennial Regional Juried Exhibition on Saturday, Sept. 15. The reception begins at 6 p.m. and the awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m.
The exhibition of 170 works of art by 56 artists are on display in the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery from Sept. 10 through Nov. 3. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Pumpkin fest
A pumpkin fest will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16 and again Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22 and 23 at the Myers Farm, five miles north of Portland on U.S. 27, then west one mile (807 West 500 North).
The hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be a petting zoo, wagon rides, an 1840 trappers camp and more. Admission is free.
Pre-teen pageant
Rhiannon Armstrong, Portland, has been selected to participate in the Nationals' 2007 Miss Pre-Teen Indianapolis pageant on Sunday, Sept. 16.
Participants will compete in casual wear and formal wear and will interview with a judging panel.
Any business, organization or individual interested in sponsoring Rhiannon may call pageant coordinator Anna Klejnowski at (800) 569-2487.
Field day
Collett Church of the Nazarene will have a field day on Sunday at the home of Lloyd and Teresa Weesner. There will be games and prizes.
The Weesners live 1/4 mile west of the church, which is located on 450 South, one mile west of U.S. 27.
A carry-in dinner will precede the field day at the church at noon.
Fort Library
The Fort Recovery Public Library will have cargo delivery on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The adult book club and storytime for younger children will both resume in October.
Receives scholarship
Jill Roughia was awarded the Luke and Erma Scheer Memorial Scholarship, in memory of the research of long-time Miami Indian historians.
Roughia is a junior majoring in history education at Huntington University.
The scholarship is available from the proceeds of the Forks of the Wabash Pioneer Festival.
District meeting
Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. will have its district meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Christian Church Annex in Macy. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
