Program offered for GOP women (5/25/04)
Taking Note
The Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series is seeking applicants from throughout Indiana for its 2004-05 class. The program is designed for Republican women who are interested in increasing their involvement in the public and political arenas.
Applicants should have demonstrated leadership skills in their fields of work or community service. As many as eighteen participants will be selected for the nine month program which features monthly sessions with government and political leaders, lobbyists and media representatives. In addition, the class members meet several times with Senator Lugar and spend three days in Washington, D.C., meeting with national Republican leaders. Two hundred and twenty-seven women from around the state have completed the program, which is entering its fifteenth year.
Applications are due August 1, 2004, and are available by calling (317) 964-5005 or using our website: www.lugarseries.org. The Lugar Series is a not-for-profit organization solely funded and operated by the contributions of individuals committed to increasing the participation of women in politics and government.
FORT FRIENDS
Friends of the Fort Recovery Library will be having a used book sale at the the Jubilee merchant’s tent during the Jubilee from Thursday, June 17 through Sunday, June 20. Anyone wishing to donate used paperback or hardback books, VCR tapes, computer games, CD’s, or DVD’s, may drop them off at the Fort Recovery library. Members of the friends group need to be sure to get your “buy one, get one free” coupon at the library.
SPECIAL DAY AT THE ZOO
The Me’s Zoo will offer a free day to those with special needs on Friday, June 11. This includes all mentally or physically handicapped persons and the elderly in poor physical condition and one person to assist them; no children please.
The zoo tour will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be no food or drinks available, so please bring a sack lunch if you wish to picnic.
Large groups need to call the zoo by June 7 for a reservation. For more information or to make a reservation, call (765) 468-8559.
The zoo is located at 12441 W. CR 300 S., Parker City. The raindate will be Friday, June 18.
RECEIVE DEGREES
Two students from Jay County received degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University during ceremonies on April 24.
Graduating were Dustin Lawrence Jones, Redkey, with a B.S. in criminal justice and Dennis Wayne Skiver, Portland, with a B.S. in management.

Amber Jewell Alberson, has made the dean’s list at Indiana Wesleyan University for the spring semester.
