Taking Note
Jay County Public Library will have an after school program on Friday, Jan. 13, from 2:45 to 4 p.m. for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The theme will be “winter” and there will be snacks, a story shared and crafts to complete. Register by Jan. 12, by calling (260) 726-7890 or stop by the library at 315 N. Ship St. in Portland. Upcoming after school specials will be Feb. 17, March 9, April 13 and May 11.
Story times in January at JCPL are Monday, Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30 with Miss Linda and Tuesday, Jan. 10, 17, 24 and 31 with Miss Mary. Times are at 11:15 a.m.
Children can learn Spanish, French, German and other languages with Muzzy online. Visit www.jaycpl.lib.in.us, click on Muzzy and enter your library card number to access Muzzy.
The Book Discussion Group at JCPL is reading “Sarah’s Key” by Tatiana de Rosnay. The group will meet Monday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. New members are welcome. In February the group will discuss “Cutting for Stone” by Abraham Verghese.
Anyone wanting to join Friends of the Jay County Public Library can pick up an application at the library. Members help with the annual book sale, fundraise, provide food for programs, prepare the newsletter, promote library programs and host author visits.

Several area students received degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University’s main campus in Marion in December.
Kymberli Bailey, Portland, received an associate degree in business. Kari Guntle, Portland, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Melissa Hodge, Bryant, received an associate degree in business. Adam Koehler, Portland, received a bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies online. Ty Myers, Portland, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Eric Trobridge, Portland, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
