Taking Note
Jay County Public Library has began the new program "1000 Books before Kindergarten."
Parents take the challenge to read 1000 books to their child before he/she enters kindergarten.
Each child who registers for the program receives a canvas book bag, a CD of children's songs, nursery rhymes and stories and a binder to record book titles.
Each child who completes the program will receive a hardcover book and their picture will be placed on the "Wall of Fame."

Jay County Public Library will have story times on Monday, March 2, 9 and 16 at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, March 3, 10 and 17 at 1 p.m.

An after school special will be held Friday, March 6, from 2:45 to 4 p.m. for children in kindergarten through third grade.

Travel kits are available at the library for anyone planning a trip and is 18 or younger.
Kits include books, stories on cassette or CD, paper games and puzzles. Movies on video and DVD can also be checked out to take on a trip.

The Book Reading group will be reading the book "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer in March.
The group will meet Monday, March 16, at 7 p.m. For more information, call the library at (260) 726-7890.

A Basic Genealogy class will be held Saturday, March 28, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and Genealogy on the Internet will be held from 10:45 to noon.

Any parent interested in forming a play group to meet with other parents can call Linda Shreve, youth services librarian, at (260) 726-7890.
Gold medal
Lauren Haggenjos received a gold medal for her flute selection at the Indiana Solo and Ensemble contest held Saturday.
Lauren is a senior at Jay County High School and a member of the band under the direction of Kelly Smeltzer, Pete Vogler and Cheryl Gueiss.
Finalist
Trey Dunn, a senior at Jay County High School, is a finalist in the 21st class of the Coca-Cola Scholarship Program. He was selected for demonstrating academic excellence, school leadership and community involvement from more than 2,100 semifinalists by the Coca-Cola Scholarship Foundation.
Dunn will join 252 other high school seniors on April 2 in Atlanta to compete for 52 four-year college scholarships of $20,000 and 200 four-year scholarships of $10,000.
He will interview with a national selection committee, tour local landmarks, meet with former Coca-Cola scholars and participate in a range of activities, including a community service project.[[In-content Ad]]
