Pumpkin Fest scheduled

The Pumpkin Fest will be held at the Myers Farm on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20 and Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27.
There will be a petting zoo, wagon rides and an 1840 trappers camp in the woods the weekend of the 19 and 20.
There will also be pumpkins, gourds, straw bales, Indian corn, corn shocks, mums, fall decorations, Halloween decorations, garage sales, soy candles, apples and cider.
The Myers farm is located five miles north of Portland on U.S. 27, then one mile west (807 West 500 North). The phone number is (260) 726-2093. Admission is free.
Learn to crochet
The Adams Public Library in Geneva is offering free beginner crochet classes each Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. through October.
All ages are welcome. Bring a size H crochet hook and some yarn. For more information, call (260) 368-7270.
Fort festival
The Fort Recovery State Museum will have an Archaeological Festival for Families on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1 Fort Site St. in Fort Recovery.
There will be flint knappers; atlatl demonstrations; face painting; and archaeology activities for kids, including mock excavations, hand pump lithic drill, clay cord making and touch and feel artifact displays.
Boy Scouts will be demonstrating skills; collectors will display artifacts from noon until 4 p.m.; and pioneer activities will be held in the log cabins.
Brian Vastano will speak at noon; Chris Keller will speak at 1 p.m.; Tony Deregnaucourt will speak at 2 p.m.; Bill Pickard will speak at 3 p.m. and Ken Sowards will speak at 4 p.m.
The festival is sponsored by The Blue Jacket Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio; Fort Recovery State Museum; Ball State University Archaeologists and Pack 99 Boy Scouts of Fort Recovery.

A Dunkirk resident took ninth place in the 8th annual Indiana State Fair Giant Pumpkin Contest held at the Indiana State Fair.
Max J. Miller's pumpkin weighed in at 680 pounds.
The largest pumpkin in the contest weighed 1,145 pounds.
Minnetrista display
Visit the "1968 In America" at Minnetrista in Muncie through January of 2010.
