Quick Guntle goal stops Yorktown (09/22/06)

YORKTOWN - A quick goal got the Tigers back in the game. But another by the Patriots finished Yorktown.
Tequila Guntle's goal 26 seconds after the Tigers pulled to within one pushed the Jay County girls soccer team to a 5-3 victory Thursday.
Yorktown trailed the Patriots 4-1 in the second half thanks to Sara Garringer's second goal of the game. But, the Tigers responded quickly, scoring only 12 seconds after Garringer's tally to pull back to within 4-2.
The home team scored again with 17:06 left in the game to get within a goal, but Guntle ended the comeback. The junior waited just 20 seconds after the third Yorktown goal, putting the game back firmly in the hands of the Patriots.
It was the third straight win for Jay County, which is now 6-3-1.
The Tigers scored the opening goal of the game at the 25:43 mark of the first half for their only lead, but Brianne Wellman sent in a deep chip to tie the game four minutes later. Garringer scored the first of her two goals with six minutes left in the half, and Nicole Pfeifer pushed the Patriot lead to 3-1 from about 30 yards out with 1:49 left before the intermission.
Jay County took 13 shots on goal compared to nine for Yorktown. Garringer and Wellman each finished with four.
Abby Loy picked up six saves, four of which came in the second half.[[In-content Ad]]
