Quilt show scheduled

The Stitch 'N Chatter Quilt Club will hold its annual quilt show during the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Show this week.
The show will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland. The show will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Quilts may be brought to Arts Place on Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and picked up on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
A raffle will be held for a queen-size quilt in the Churn Dash pattern. There will also be door prizes, vendors, appraisals and demonstrations.
Admission is $3 and parking is free. For more information, call (260) 726-2705 or (765) 857-2083.

Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. in Portland, will have its annual book sale on Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m.

JCPL will also go Evergreen in early October.
The library has joined the Evergreen Indiana Consortium, a group of Indiana public libraries that share circulation and catalog systems so patrons can view the catalogs of other member libraries and borrow materials from them using their Evergreen Indiana Library card. New Evergreen cards will be issued at no charge to existing borrowers.
Other changes of Evergreen will be longer borrowing periods, one time renewal for all materials, fines for all items will be 25 cents and a $10 non-refundable fee will be charged for lost items, plus the cost of the lost item.

The library is offering a Food for Fines program.
The program will forgive $1 in overdue materials for each food item brought to the library for the Helping Hand Food Bank.
Non-perishable food items may be brought to the library from Sept. 1 to 15. Food must be unopened, pre-packaged, unexpired and undamaged in cans or boxes. For more information, call the library at (260) 726-7890.

The book reading group will discuss the book "Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia" by Elizabeth Gilbert on Monday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.
