BERNE — If approved, a proposed 1 percent increase to the salaries of school administrators would put the superintendent’s salary at more than $98,000 year for the next three years.
Information on contracts for school administrators was released Thursday.
Board members voted 4 to 2 at Tuesday’s meeting to table their vote on contracts for school administrators, which includes South Adams superintendent Connie Bailey, South Adams High School principal Brent Lehman, SAHS assistant principal Tom White, South Adams Middle School principal Scott Litwiller, South Adams Elementary School principal Jeff Rich and athletic director Steve Rhoades.
The contract also includes SAHS guidance counselor Malcolm Stauffer, SAHS band director Curt Amstutz, SAHS football coach Kirk Sorg and SAHS basketball coach Jason Ridge. A 1 percent salary increase is being proposed across the board.
According to information released, a three-year contract is being proposed for Bailey. The proposed 1 percent salary increase will take her salary to $98,482.76 a year from $97,507.68 a year.
Two-year contracts are being proposed for principals at the high school, middle school and elementary school, as well as the athletic director and the basketball coach.
Proposed annual salaries totals are: Lehman, $71,196.04; Litwiller, $61,661.98; Rich, $61,280.13; Rhoades, $58,271.75 and Ridge, $6,100.
One-year contracts are being proposed for White, Stauffer, Sorg and Amstutz.
Proposed salaries totals are: White, $59,854.50; Stauffer, $61,788.17; Sorg, $7,306 and Amstutz, $4,200.
Board members Denny Affolder and John Crider voted in opposition of tabling the contracts. Board members Tony Mellenkamp, Steve Dobler, Steve Hampshire and Julie Mansfield voted in favor of tabling the issue.
Board president Arlene Amstutz didn’t vote on the issue. She is only required to vote to break a tie between board members.
Mellenkamp, who made the initial motion to table the issue, said Wednesday morning that he hoped this action by the board would prompt teachers and board members to meet and discuss teacher contracts. South Adams teachers have been without a contract for approximately three years.
Hampshire said this morning that the issue was tabled until the board’s Tuesday, July 12 meeting, and no special meeting has been set by the board to discuss the issue.
