FORT RECOVERY — A disastrous second quarter left the Indians just short of victory.
Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team nearly came back from a 15-point halftime deficit, but fell to the Marion Local Flyers 33-30 Monday night.
The Indians were up 5-3 after the opening period, but managed just two points in the second. They scored more points in both the third and fourth quarters than in the entire opening half, but it was not quite enough to overcome the 22-7 halftime deficit.
Brent Faller led the Indians with eight points and four rebounds, and Tom Will had seven points and four boards. Matt Braun totaled six points and four assists, and Frank Thien also had six points.
Marion Local scored more than half of its points — 19 — in the second quarter.
Driver downs Chiefs
WINCHESTER — The East Jay Middle School wrestling team couldn’t quite keep up with Winchester Driver Monday, dropping a 44-30 decision.
The Chiefs finished with five victories. Winning matches were Zac Somers (90), Justin Loper (110), D.J. Teeple (115), Scott Houston (135) and Jake Boyer (175).
EJ 6th cruises again
DECATUR — Every player scored for the East Jay girls basketball team as it rolled to 4-0 with a 41-3 destruction of St. Joe Monday.
Mariah Hornaday led the well-distributed scoring with 12 points as five Chiefs scored more points than the entire St. Joe squad. East Jay has now allowed just 14 points in four games.
Mollie May followed Hornaday with eight points, and Kassie Hemmelgarn had four assists. Danielle Wellman notched nine rebounds and four assists.
Maria Murphy led the B team with 13 points as it kept its perfect record in tact with a 19-17 triple overtime win over St. Joe.
Chief 8th victorious
The East Jay eighth graders won their invitational and remained undefeated with a 26-8 championship victory over Winchester Saturday. The seventh grade Chiefs finished third at the East Jay Invitational with a 22-11 consolation win over Monroe Central.
Pazia Speed and Lindsey Wellman each scored nine points as the eighth grade team topped Winchester to improve to 11-0. Speed had 17 points and Wellman added 10 in the team’s 41-24 opening round win over Monroe Central.
Cara Garringer paced the seventh grade team (9-3) with six points in the win over Monroe Central, and Erin Hunt and Jordan McMillan each had four points. Garringer had six points and Laura Castillo scored three as the squad lost its opening-round game 31-18 to Yorktown.[[In-content Ad]]
