The Jay County Public Library will begin accepting registrations for its summer reading program “Discover New Trails at Your Library” on Monday, June 6, and continue through June 18. The program is for infants through children entering the fifth grade. Winners will get to attend a pool party, earn “book bucks” to spend at the Scholastic Book Fair in August and receive a free Fort Wayne Wizards ticket.
Teens in grades sixth through 12th may enroll in “Read for Food” where a food item will be given for each book read. Drawings will be held for food coupons donated by area establishments. Another teen program will be a murder/mystery on Tuesday, June 14. More teen programs will be on June 27, June 28 and July 12.
Story time for infants through children entering third grade will be held in the story corner of the Jay County Public Library on Thursday, June 9, at 11 a.m. Other summer story times will be June 16, 23, 30, July 7 and 14.
Children wanting to make a pioneer craft can do so on Saturday, June 11, from noon until 4 p.m. at the Jay County Public Library. The program is for children ages 12 and younger and adults need to accompany younger children.
A program featuring Ronald McDonald will be held on Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at the Jay County Public Library for preschool through elementary school age children. Other Monday programs will be held on June 20 (Pioneer Bingo), June 27 (Magic Man Ryan Demler), and July 11 (Silly Safaris with Alligator Aaron.)
The adult reading program “Goodies for Grown-ups” will again be offered. For each book read, your name is entered in a drawing for free items from local merchants.

Talent show
The Jay County July Fourth committee will hold its annual talent show at 2 p.m. on July 4 on the farmers stage at the fairgrounds. To register, call WPGW radio station at (260) 726-8780.
Received degree
Derek Joseph Cheek, son of Terry and Sarona Cheek of Dunkirk, recently received his doctorate of ministry degree from Trinity Episcopal Seminary in Ambridge, Penn.
The Rev. Dr. Cheek is the pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olean, N.Y. and has also pastored at Lutheran Church in Kettering, Ohio, and Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville, Mo.
Last concert
Wright State University Lake Campus Music Department, in Celina, Ohio, will present its last concert of the year on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Both the orchestra and the University Chorus, under the direction of Karen Meiring of Fort Recovery, will perform.
Dean’s list
Jay County High School graduate Melissa J. Muhlenkamp, Bryant, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio. She is an agricultural major.
Andrew Shelton and Nicholas Shelton have both made the dean’s list for the spring semester at I.U.P.U.I. in Indianapolis. They are the sons of Candace Shelton and Richard Shelton, both of Portland, and the grandsons of Gene Lingo, Portland.
Travis Richards, Portland, has been named to the dean’s list at Tri-State University for the spring semester.
Workshops
Three grant writing workshops will be held this summer. The first one is on Thursday, June 23, and Friday, June 24, at Holiday Inn Express, 1180 Wilson Dr., Greenwood.
The next one is at Holiday Inn Express, 19600 Elpers Road, Evansville, on Thursday, Aug. 4 and Friday, Aug. 5.
The last is Monday, Oct. 10, and Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Holiday Inn Express, 411 W. Spring St. in New Albany.
All workshops are from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and scholarships are available.
