Reading programs offered (8/23/04)
Taking Note
The Jay County Public Library is promoting an online reading program entitled “Join the Major Leagues.” It is a trivia based contest where contestants can enter to win tickets to a World Series game.
The program is divided into four age groups; 10 and younger, ages 11 through 13, 14 through 17, and 18 and older. Questions, entry forms, and complete directions may be found at www.ala.org/@yourlibrary/jointhemajorleagues or at the library.
Deadline for entry is Friday, Sept. 10. Questions may be directed to the library at (260) 726-7890.
The “Go for the Gold” reading program is still going on. This program is based upon the Summer Olympic Games. Game boards may be picked up at the library and need to be completed by the end of August.
RETIRED TEACHERS
The Jay County Retired Teachers met Aug. 9 at the Westchester United Methodist Church for a luncheon and program. President Bob Freemyer welcomed guests Bill Davis and Ron Liggett; retired teachers Maria Hiatt and Judy Smith; Seth Rodden, and the Mossburg family.
Following lunch, Davis and Liggett answered questions. Merle Lucterhand presented devotions on giving and sharing.
The Mossburg children entertained with a variety of string selections. Chris Loy and Judy Stauffer provided the table decorations and Chris Loy won the door prize.
The next meeting will be on Monday, Oct. 11, in Geneva.
CANCER SCREENINGS
A free prostate cancer screening will be held on Monday, Sept. 20, at The Cancer Center at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Call (765) 741-1073 for an appointment.
ART CLASSES
The Community Arts and Building Foundation, 520 E. Main St., 2nd floor, Muncie, announces its fall art sessions from Saturday, Sept. 11, through Sunday, Nov. 21. Classes include the Strings Institute, group and private piano, group and private flute, private voice, dance, tap, ballet, swing, ballroom, painting, drawing, weaving and clay.
Registration deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 1. For more information, call (765) 288-5347 ext. 23.
