Real-life lesson from a TV show?
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Thursday afternoon about 2:30 I sat down to rest up from working on the house and The Andy Griffith Show was on TV. It seems that Sheriff Taylor was over to his girlfriends' house and found a newspaper clipping from Kansas City from some years ago.
It was a clipping about Helen Crump (Andy's girlfriend) being arrested by two police officers and charged with possession of a handgun, dealing cards in a gambling house and being in the company of a hoodlum named Brown.
Now Andy did not understand what this was all about but he tried to find out quietly and in the process accidentally left the clipping on his desk where a couple of the townsfolk saw it. Of course it was soon all over town and since Helen is a school teacher the head of the PTA grabbed on to the tale and would not let go like a dog shaking a rat.
She finally had Helen dragged in before the school board and was going to bring charges to have her dismissed.
That is when Sheriff Taylor came back from Mount Pilot and explained to the school board the reason for the charges and why Helen was involved and most importantly how she was found not guilty.
Well, you know what? The school board and the head of the PTA apologized and said they were sorry for thinking such a thing about Helen and she was allowed to keep her teaching job.
I laughed and laughed about the show. After all, it was just a show and we all know that things like that just do not happen in real life. You know, like apologizing and saying I am sorry I thought ill of you and besmirched your character. Think about it.

Many thanks
To the editor:
We wish to thank everyone who prayed and showed concern for Brandon Bryant, the young man with diabetes who almost lost his life to this disease.
We want to thank everyone at Ball Memorial Hospital - the doctors, nurses and all staff - that took part in his care and recovery.
We also wish to thank all the thousands of guardian angels who prayed long and hard for his recovery, along with the hundreds of churches, prayer groups, prayer warriors and all the people across our great country who showed concern, compassion, love and kindness and gave their support to Brandon and his family for God above to heal him and make a speedy recovery.
We are pleased to tell you that God heard your prayers. And Brandon is a true miracle of God's love.
Although things looked bleak at the time, Brandon has made a 180-degree turnaround to getting back on his feet. All of you who prayed diligently to have God hear you and heal Brandon, we praise Jesus and God in all his glory and we thank you for your prayers and your devotion. We want to let you know that the road to recovery is slow and costly.
