A record-breaking effort from the 8-and-younger group led to the 8-0 record.

The Jay County Summer Swim Team stayed perfect on the season thanks in part to Katy Smeltzer, Sophie Bader, Amelia Freeman and Anne Vormohr snapping a 13-year-old team record. Bader was also one of four triple-event winners for the team as it trounced Union City 860-230 at the Portland Pool Thursday night.

Smeltzer, Bader, Freeman and Vormohr got the evening started off right, breaking the 8-and-younger girls medley relay record in the first event of the evening. They finished in 1-minute, 34.34 seconds, snapping the previous mark of 1:34.47 set in 1992.

Bader went on to three individual victories, taking first in the long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley. Vormohr added two individual wins, and Freeman had one.

Jay County had two swimmers win three events in the 9-10-year-old division. Caitlin Mark took the girls long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle, and Radney Pearson was first in the boys long freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.

Richard Osterholt added three more victories in the 11-12-year-old boys division in the long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke.

Jay County, which will host Randolph County Monday, posted a pair of double winners in four different age groups, including Levi Hummel and Sok Vormohr in the 8-and-younger boys division. Cori Vormohr and Michelle Landfair each won two events for the 13-14-year-old girls, and Sam Miller and Aaron Hudson grabbed two each for the 13-14-year-old boys.

Chance Milligan and Joseph Vormohr picked up two victories apiece for the 15-and-older boys.

Also earning a pair of wins were Rachel Vogler, Lucas Holcomb and Laura Vogler.[[In-content Ad]]
