Record relay leads WJMS to victory
WJMS boys track
WARREN - Tyler Back was part of a record relay Tuesday and also won three individual events to lead the West Jay Middle School boys track team to an 84-26 victory over host Salamonie.
Back, Shelby Wendel, Blake Crouch and Lucas Wiemer teamed to take first place in the 4x100-meter relay. Their time of 50.2 seconds set a new WJMS record.
In the field events, Back added victories in the shot put and discus. He also led a sweep of the 200 hurdles in front of Kyle Murdock and Wendel.
Crouch was first in the 100 dash, Wiemer won the 200 dash and Harris led the field in the 800 run. Those three also teamed with Dalton Eyanson for first place in the 4x400 relay.
Kyle Murdock added a victory in the 110 hurdles, and Kaelen Jewell was first in the long jump.
West Jay also finished second with 114 points Monday in the Southern Wells Relays, just five points behind champion Bluffton. South Adams was third at 81 in the six-team event.
Back and Daniel Ring went one-two in the shot put with tosses of 44 feet even and 38 feet, 4 inches respectively. Back also took the top spot in the discus by more than 20 feet at 120 feet, 7 inches.
In the 4x100 relay, Back, Crouch, Wiemer and Eyanson posted a winning time of 50.9 seconds.
Crouch picked up the other win for West Jay in 12.6 in the 100 dash.
South Adams earned four victories, with Evan Liechty first in both the 800 and 1,600 runs with times of 2:20.7 and 5:01.1 respectively. Alex Kistler won the 200 dash in 27.2, and joined Liechty, Brody Shane and Andrew Steffen to win the distance medley in 9:50.2.
West Jay had six runner-up efforts, with Wiemer (200 dash), Eyanson (110 hurdles), Raistlin Rice (high jump), Jewell (long jump) and the 800 sprint medley team of Wendel, Crouch, Eyanson and Nate Brackman joining Ring.[[In-content Ad]]
