RICHMOND — For the third straight game the Jay County High School girls soccer team went without a goal Monday in a 2-0 loss to the Richmond Red Devils.
Richmond (5-11-1) took the lead about 13 minutes into the game when senior Alexi Scott hit a grounder from the right side to the left corner of the goal. The Red Devils pushed the lead to 2-0 just three minutes later when Alana Stewart, also a senior, converted a penalty kick.
Jay County (2-10-3) was limited to just three shots on goal, two from Alex Loy and one by LeAnn Horn. It was the ninth time the Patriots have been shut out this season.
In the junior varsity game, JCHS dropped a 2-1 decision to the Red Devils.
Ericka Reynolds scored the goal for the Patriots (1-5-1) with 17:05 on the clock in the first half. Reynolds, Frida Hernandez and Katie Butcher each took one shot on goal, and Brooke Reynard totaled four saves.

Jay gridders fall
The Jay County freshman football team dropped a 32-14 decision Monday to the visiting Pendleton Heights Arabians.
Brock Farmer scored on a touchdown pass from Wes Hibbard, and Keenan James added a TD run. Jacob Easton had an interception.

Indians top WJ
DUNKIRK — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade volleyball team defeated host West Jay 25-16, 25-21 Monday, and the seventh grade Indians beat the Eagles 25-11, 25-12.
Haley Knapke led the Tribe eighth grade team (6-6) with 15 points, including eight aces, and four kills. Cassidy Rammel had seven kills, and Rachel Pugh finished with five assists.
Rachel Kaup totaled 10 points for the FRMS seventh graders (4-8). Julie Wendel and Claire Kinder each scored seven points, and Kasey Vogel had three kills.
Ryder, Carvel win

GASTON — Jalen Ryder of East Jay and Kyler Carvel of West Jay each picked up wins Monday as the two local teams took on Delta and host Wes-Del. Delta won all three competitions, and East Jay was second.
Ryder took first place in the eighth grade boys race  in 10 minutes, 57 seconds. Carvel was first in the sixth and seventh grade boys race at 11:22.
Following Ryder for the eighth grade Chief boys were Tyler Wendel (fifth - 11:48), Bryan Schwieterman (seventh - 12:08), Adam Jutte (eighth - 12:10) and Conner Daniels (11th - 13:03).
Emi Minnich was second in the girls race for East Jay in 12:00 followed by Megan Wellman (third - 12:03), Kellie Fortkamp (sixth - 12:54), Sophie Bader (ninth - 13:09) and Erika Kunkler (11th - 13:14). In the sixth and seventh grade boys race Matthew Cox was third for East Jay in 11:28 ahead of Michael Denney (fourth - 11:30), Tim Hein (ninth - 12:04), Mark Hein (10th - 12:09) and Luke Weaver (16th - 12:48).
Behind Carvel for West Jay were Tanner Craw (12th - 12:16), Dakota Grove (15th - 12:43), Travis Barton (26th - 13:42) and John Paquette (31st - 14:37).

EJ spikers beat Bears
PARKER CITY — Catherine Dunn racked up 14 points, including eight aces, to lead the East Jay eighth grade volleyball team to a 25-11, 25-21 victory Monday over the host Monroe Central Golden Bears. The sixth graders won 25-17, 25-24.
Following Dunn for the Chief eighth graders (9-9) was Malarie Houck with five points and five kills. Jessica Kerrigan had six assists, and Breanne McIntire notched four kills.
Deanna Chenoweth led the sixth grade victory with 12 aces. Lizzy Schoenlein chipped in five kills.
The Chiefs also hosted the East Jay Invitational Saturday with the seventh and eighth grade teams each going 2-1.
Dunn paced the eight grade Chiefs with 26 points, 11 aces and eight kills. Kylie Osborne finished with 15 points, five assists and five kills for the seventh graders (10-7).

Grimes scores two
Parker Grimes was the top offensive player in Jay County Pee Wee Football this week, scoring a pair of touchdowns Saturday to lead the Colts to a 16-0 win over the Bears.
Jake Geesaman had the only TD as the Giants beat the Chiefs 8-0, and Ivan Hemmelgarn and Bryson Huntsman each scored as the Bengals beat the Vikings. Gabe Faulkner, Korbin Auker and Jace Alberson all had TDs as the Dolphins beat the Cowboys.[[In-content Ad]]
