Redkey chamber meets Tuesday (11/11/06)
Business Roundup
The Redkey Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Redkey Town Hall, 20 S. Ash St., Redkey.
Officers will be elected at this meeting. All area businesses and interested residents are encouraged to attend.
Tree program
Holly Pines Christmas Tree Farm, rural Bryant, will be sending Christmas trees to troops and their families.
The business is participating in the Trees for Troops program. This program is done in cooperation with state Christmas tree organizations, the Christmas Spirit Foundation of the National Christmas Tree Association and FedEx.
These groups hope to collect more than 11,000 real Christmas trees and deliver them to the troops and their families.
The trees will be collected at a central location in Indiana then sent overseas and throughout the United States.
Nominations due
The Portland Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the chamber's annual awards.
Awards giving include Lifetime Achievement, Citizen of the Year, Industry of the Year, and Business of the Year.
The nominations are due by Nov. 22. For more information, contact the chamber at (260) 726-4481.
Goal in sight
The United Way of Jay County's 2007 Campaign has raised $101,521.29 - including $12,000 which was raised through "business blitz."
On Oct. 17, United Way volunteers visited small businesses throughout the county and collected donations.
The overall campaign goal is $220,000.
Luncheon set
The Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking lunch meeting Tuesday at noon.
The event will be held at the Geneva Town Hall, community center, located on Line Street.
Evelyn Ringger of Pre-Paid Legal Services will explain how the latest federal legislation may affect businesses.
Reservations must be made by Monday by calling (260) 368-7251.
Eligible for aid
Former employees of a Richmond plant are now eligible to receive federal Trade Adjustment Assistance.
The TAA program, which is administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, is given to workers who are displaced due to imports or shifts in production out of the country. The former employees of Mosey Manufacturing will receive this benefit.
To be eligible for these benefits a company executive, union representative or three former employees have to file a petition with the U.S. Department of Labor. The program helps the unemployed workers find suitable employment.
There is a Mosey Manufacturing in Dunkirk.

East Central Indiana Payroll Association members will meet Thursday.
The meeting will be held at the Delaware Country Club, 510 South Country Club Road, Muncie. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., and lunch and a program will start at 11:45 a.m.
Derek Ruttan of All State Insurance will talk about how to maximize voluntary benefits in the workplace.
Reservations must be made by noon on Tuesday by calling Faith Adair at (765) 396-9647. Cost is $13.

Two Berne businesses will be honored by Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and Lieutenant Gov. Becky Skillman.
Moser Motors will receive the Governor's Century Business Award, and Habegger ACE will be given the Governor's Half Century Business Award. The Berne Chamber of Commerce nominated the businesses for the awards.
To qualify for these distinctions the businesses must have be at least 50 years old and have a solid record of community service. The businesses will receive the awards on Tuesday.
There also is a Moser Motors used vehicle dealership in Portland.

Dues Nursery and Landscaping, Ltd., Celina, Ohio, recently was given the Gold Performance Level award.
The honor was given at the Professional Landcare Network Safety Recognition Awards Program. The award is given to reward green industry service providers for demonstrating a commitment to safety.
