Registration open for music program (12/07/07)

Registrations are being accepted for MusicWorks lessons for students and adults at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland.

Lessons will be available in band instruments, strings, piano, voice, guitar and harp, and piano instruction will be available at The Collective Center in St. Marys, Ohio.

Group lessons will be offered for Stateline Singers youth choir, Eastern Breeze Flute Ensemble, Distant Thunder and Distant Rumble Percussion Ensembles, Brassissimo! brass ensemble, Brown Paper Sax saxaphone ensemble, Music Explorers, East Walnut Street Strings, Music Major Boot Camp and Music da Capo.

The registration deadline is Dec. 21 for weekly classes that will begin Jan. 21.

Wins award

Julie R. Sours, Portland, has been selected for a $1,000 award in the National Delta Phi Alpha scholarship competition. The money is to be used for study in Germany, Austria or Switzerland
