Remembrance event set Nov. 14

State of the Heart Hospice is having an event to  remember loved ones lost in the past year.
A Community Holiday Remembrance Gathering will be held Sunday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 289 South 200 West, Portland.
Those attending will light a candle in remembrance of a loved one and join with others who share a common bond.

Receives degree
Jay County High School FFA students recently received their American FFA Degree at the 83rd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
Receiving degrees were Michael Ault, Elizabeth Caylor, Michelle Dirksen, Travis Garringer, Mackenzie Loy, Chris Lutes, Aaron McLaughlin, Gina Muhlenkamp, Richie Rudrow, Amanda Schmitmeyer, Esther Stephen and Sarah  Westgerdes.
Members received a gold American FFA Degree key and a certificate in a frame.

Book signing
Author Patrick J. O’Brian will be at Jay County Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. for two book signings.
O’Brian has written a coffee table book detailing the history of the West Baden Springs Hotel in the southern Indiana town of West Baden.
He will also introduce a new book in his Terry Levine mystery series. Some other books in the series include the first one “Reaper” in 2002 and “Dysfunction” and “Sawmill Road.”
