Dunkirk High School graduating class of 1974 will have a reunion on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at West Jay Community Center in Dunkirk. To make reservations, call Karin (Pettyjohn) Shreeves at (765) 768-7101.
Grief classes to begin
State of the Heart Home Health and Hospice will begin grief education classes on Monday, Sept. 17. The free support group will meet for six Mondays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the hospice office, 410 W. Votaw St. in Portland.
Classes are for adults mourning the death of a loved one recently or in the past. For more information or to register, call the hospice office at (260) 726-3220 or (800) 527-0514.
Essay contest
Indiana eighth grade students are invited to participate in the Indiana Farm Bureau annual essay contest.
The theme is "Energy Aware - Energy Independent." Essay contestants are to consider the different types of alternative energy, including wind, solar, biofuels, etc. and what farmers can do to lead the way for a sustainable energy future.
A brochure is available as a PDF file at www.infarmbureau.org in the "Events" section.
Entries must be mailed to a local Farm Bureau county woman and postmarked by Oct. 22.

Ciera Rammel from Fort Recovery made the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rhodes State College.
Pumpkinliner
Tickets are available for the annual Pumpkinliner event on Oct. 13 aboard The Whitewater Valley Railroad in Connersville.
The train will take children and their parents to the Pumpkin Patch Station where a hayride will available to the pumpkin patch where children may choose a pumpkin.
The Pumpkinliner will depart at 10 a.m. and 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 and are available by calling (765) 825-2054.
