Reunion to be held after local production

Jay County Civic Theatre, Inc. and Jay County High School Thespians are planning a Return to Our Town Reunion of its former actors after a play at the high school this month. The play is being funded through a $3,000 grant from The Portland Foundation.
The groups will present an innovative rendition of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” on Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The play will be directed by Carol Knarr, the JCHS theatre director. “The entire audience will be seated on stage with the actors and the staging will include a 20’ turntable.” Knarr described of the setting for the play.  
After Friday’s performance, the cast and crew will join alumni members at Pizza Hut in Portland. After Saturday’s performance, they will meet at Buffalo Wings and Rings in Portland and a reunion and banquet will be held after the Sunday performance. Tickets will be $15 for the show and the banquet.

“Our Town” will feature Dolphus Stephens, Jim Waechter, Glen Priest, Andre Whetstone, Sue Brunson, Cain M. Bilbrey, Derek Manson, Mitchel Dull and Ann Casey.
The two groups will perform again next spring in a play produced by former Jay County High School theatre director Tony Howell.

A sonnet by Jack Ronald, Portland, has been published in the latest edition of Measure, a review of formal poetry published by the University of Evansville.
Ronald, 62, is editor and publisher of
The Commercial Review. His poems have been published in a number of small magazines, including The Lyric and SPSM&H.

April students
West Jay Middle School named its Students of the Month for April.
In sixth grade was Brianna Shrout, the daughter of Brian Shrout.
In seventh grade was Logan Miller, the daughter of Greg Miller and Tammy Miller.
In eighth grade was Chad Lykins Jr., the son of Chad and Sarah Lykins.

Receives awards
Austin Flynn, Redkey, recently received awards and recognitions at the Wabash College Student Honors Chapel.
He was designated a Mackintosh Fellow, received the Distinction in English recognition, was named a member of Phi Beta Kappa and received the Walter L. Fertig Prize in English.
Flynn is a 2007 graduate of JCHS and the son of Steve and Carlotta Flynn.[[In-content Ad]]
