Robotics teams move to world event

Jay County High School Robotics had two teams qualify for the VEX Robotics World Championship at a tournament held Saturday in Zionsville with 54 teams participating.
Team 1193E, consisting of Austin Wendel, Evan Mathias, Tyler Wendel and Kaleb Baldwin were in first place all day with a record of 5-0.
Team 1193A, consisting of Caleb Hummel, Sean McKibben, Zech Landers and Darren DeRome finished the qualifying round at 13th.
The World Championship will be held in April at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Kissimmee, Florida.
Music month
Jay County elementary fourth and fifth grade students will present the concert “Music Lasts Forever” in conjunction with Music in Our Schools Month in March as declared by the National Association for Music Education.
The students will sing and play their recorders on Thursday, March 17, at 7 p.m. in the Jay County High School gymnasium. Also the Redkey and Westlawn Orff Ensembles will perform.
Grief groups
State of the Heart Hospice in Portland will begin two grief groups on Wednesday, March 30. They will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the office at 1237 West Ind. 67.
The groups are for anyone who has lost a loved one and will be led by Marlene Black, bereavement specialist, and Chaplain Rogers Durham. They will continue each Wednesday through May 4.

Dean’s list
Kari Brotherton, Portland, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Ball State University.
New officers
The Wayne Blue Ribbons 4-H Club recently elected the following new officers.
Elaine Hemmelgarn, president; Adam Jutte, vice-president; Lauren Evans, treasurer; Lucy Hemmelgarn, secretary; Katie Snyder, reporter; Tiffany Robinette, health/safety; Patrick Hemmelgarn, Rosemary Hemmelgarn and Ryleigh Hampson, song leaders; Ivan Hemmelgarn, Henry Hemmelgarn and Thomas Hemmelgarn, activities.
The next meeting is Thursday, March 17, at Fairview Church.
