Foresters edge Cardinals
The Foresters of Huntington College held of the Geneva Cardinals 6-5 Tuesday.
Geneva, now 5-13 for the season, fell behind 3-0 in the first inning. Though they rallied, they were never able to get control of the lead.
Starting pitcher Dann Hunt, who struggled early with his control, took the loss. Hunt worked four innings and allowed four runs on four hits. He struck out nine, but he walked five and hit three Forester batters. He’s now 0-2 for the season.
Joe Ottenweiler followed Hunt on the mount, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four. He also struggled with control, hitting four Huntington batters.
Alex Childers led the Cardinal offense with two of the team’s four hits.
With two outs in the eighth, Childers drove in Troy Hirschy and Travis Foster to cut the Forester lead to one at 6-5. Danner Partridge then came to the plate. He’d scored a run earlier after doubling and stealing a base.
But this time around, Partridge objected to a questionable strike call and found himself ejected. Pinch-hitter Victor Canales then grounded out, ending the Cardinals threat.
