Rockets 4-0 in South Bend
SOUTH BEND — Portland had split each of its last four doubleheaders.
Such was not the case in South Bend.
The Rockets (12-7) swept the Mishawaka Brewers on Saturday, 9-1 and 5-2, then turned around to take a pair from the South Bend Cardinals on Sunday, 3-1, 14-0.
Portland broke open a scoreless tie with nine runs in the seventh, led by Geoff Blowers notching four RBIs in the inning.
Mitch Waters struck out eight in Portland’s game one win, then Craig Martin and Justin Miller combined for the win in game two.
In Sunday’s first game, Dalton Tinsley led off with a double off the wall for the only Portland hit, but the Rockets pieced together two more runs to give Dan Bollenbacher the win. The South Adams High School product scattered three hits and struck out 10 in six innings, giving way for Travis Gray to get the save.
Tyler Reynolds pitched a four-hit shutout in game two against the Cardinals, in a game that only lasted five innings.
Bowers had six hits and five RBIs on the weekend, with Tinsley notching five hits and scored five times.[[In-content Ad]]
