FORT WAYNE — The Portland Rockets extended their winning streak to 11 games over the weekend by beating the Fort Wayne Orioles Friday night and sweeping a doubleheader against the Fort Wayne Marlins at Carrington Field.
On Friday night the Rockets beat the Orioles 14-1 behind the bat of Logan Hug and the arm of South Adams High School graduate Dan Bollenbacher. Hug’s three hits led the Rockets’ offensive attack, and Bollenbacher allowed only two hits and fanned seven on the mound.
Tyler Reynolds pitched a four-hit shutout in game one as the Rockets shutout the Marlins 3-0.
In the nightcap, the Rockets’ pitching staff continued to keep the Marlins at bay by throwing a combined one-hitter. Junior Santos, Quin Smith, Matt Chronister and Dalton Gentry all threw in Portland’s 6-0 victory.
Sunday’s doubleheader against the Fort Wayne Expos was canceled due to inclement weather.
The weekend sweep of two Fort Wayne teams caps off the month of June, in which the Rockets went 14-2-1. During its 11-game winning streak, Portland has outscored its opponents 107-14.
