Rockets, Jackers split
Portland Rockets
FORT WAYNE — The Portland Rockets dropped the opening game of their doubleheader Saturday, but closed the season with a victory.
After falling 1-0 to the Fort Wayne Jackers, Portland bounced back to win the second game 5-2.
Zach Tanner of Wright State University keyed the Rockets, going 3-for-3 with a triple in the fifth inning. Thomas McCowan, a Jay County High School graduate, drove in Tanner to give the Rockets (22-9) the lead for good.
McCowan scored in the second inning on an Austin Bridges sacrifice fly, and Dalton Tinsley also had an RBI.
Dan Bollenbacher (South Adams) struck out five batters as he earned the win. He allowed two runs on six hits.
Eathan Daggett and Travis Gray secured the win in relief.
Mitch Waters (Jay County) took the game-one loss despite giving up just three hits. The Jackers scored an unearned run in the third inning.
