Rockets roll over Byall Homes (07/02/03)

The Portland Rockets tightened their hold on first place in the Fort Wayne League Tuesday with a 9-2 victory over Byall Homes.

The victory gives Portland a 12-2 record within the league. It is 18-3 overall this year.

John Lauden gave the Rockets all they needed ont he mound to start the game, holding a no-hitter through four innings. John Pettibone pitched a hitless fifth before Byall finally got on the board with two runs in the sixth inning.

Lauden got the win, allowing just one walk while striking out three.

Portland got on the board quickly as Josh Mayfield led off the game with a double. He scored on an Adam Childs single for a 1-0 lead.

The Rockets added a run in the second inning, and blew the game open with six runs in the third.

Mayfield and Childs each finished with two hits for Portland. Mayfield also scored twice.

Soccer call out

The Jay County boys soccer team will have a call out meeting Monday at 6 p.m.

The meeting will be at the girls practice field to the west of the school. All those interested in playing soccer for the boys team at Jay County this fall should attend.

Firecracker 5K

The Ansonia Firecracker 5K run will be Friday, July 4 in Ansonia, Ohio.

Registration for the race will begin at 7 a.m. Ohio time at the Ansonia Firehouse. The race is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

Eighty awards will be given after the race in 13 different male and female divisions.

Pool activities

There will be several activities at Portland Pool in the coming weeks.

The third of three sessions of swimming lessons will be held at the Portland Pool beginning Monday, July 14.

The classes are for all ages, and the cost is $10 per person. There will be four different half-hour long classes each day, beginning at 9 a.m.

There will not be make-up dates for weather-related cancellations.

Also, low-impact water aerobics is being offered for adults on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. The cost is $2 per session and no registration is required.[[In-content Ad]]
