Rockets split doubleheader
Portland Rockets
UPLAND — The Rockets eked out a win in extras in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, but a trio of errors gave the Trojans a win in game two for a series split.
Mitch Waters hit an RBI single in the top half of the eighth to score Justin Miller from second and give the Portland Rockets a 3-2 win over the Taylor Trojans in the opener at Taylor University.
Geoff Blowers put the Rockets up 1-0 in game two, but three errors led to three runs for the Trojans as they earned a 3-1 victory.
South Adams High School graduate Dan Bollenbacher struck out a baker’s dozen in game one for Portland (3-4). He worked with his former battery mate Jordan Steiner to toss 97 pitches in six innings of work, before giving way to Waters.
Collin Affolder — who was making his Rockets debut — and Steiner, also former Starfires, accounted for the first two runs of the game before Waters, a Jay County graduate, put the Rockets ahead and then closed the door on the Trojans.
Tyler Reynolds allowed three unearned runs in the second game, scattering three hits in the loss.
Blowers led the Rocket offense with two hits and an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
