Rockets stay perfect in Fort Wayne League (06/08/05)

FORT WAYNE — Phil Bruns’ two-run single in the fifth inning keyed the Portland Rockets as they stayed unbeaten in Fort Wayne League play with a 6-3 victory over Crumback-Symons Tuesday.

Portland (9-2, 3-0 Fort Wayne) was in a deadlock in the fifth inning when Bruns, who finished with three hits, knocked a bases-loaded single for a 4-2 advantage.

Bruns also hit a home run earlier in the contest.

Kyle Dygert added a two-run home run in the sixth inning, and Luke Jones notched a pair of hits.

Jimmy Linder picked up the victory in six strong innings of work. He allowed just four hits while striking out six batters.

Jay County graduate Pete Byrum tossed the final inning to close out the win.

Cards lose 7th straight

CELINA, Ohio — The Geneva Cardinals won their season opener. Tuesday night they had the tables turned on them.

The Grand Lake Mariners opened their season with a 4-0 win over Geneva, handing the Cardinals their seventh straight defeat.

Bryan Rumple fell to 0-3 with the loss as he allowed three earned runs in 62/3 innings. He gave up seven hits while striking out seven.

Chris Anderson paced the offense, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Travis Foster had a double, and Robert Carroll and Billy Craig each added one hit.[[In-content Ad]]
