Rockets struggle to 4 losses
Local roundup
The Portland Rockets struggled through a difficult weekend, dropping four games - 2-1 and 4-1 to Taylor University Saturday and 4-1 and 16-0 to the Shady Nook Jackers Sunday.
Daniel Bollenbacher, a South Adams High School graduate, turned in the performance of the weekend, carrying a no-hitter into the final inning of game one Saturday. But a walk and two hits in the bottom of the seventh left the Rockets with a loss.
Justin Marrero had two hits in the defeat.
The offensive drought continued with Portland managing just one hit in game two against Taylor and two hits, both from Chris Tillery, in the opener against Shady Nook. It finally got the bats going in the final game of the weekend to take a 7-4 lead in the third inning, but then allowed five runs in the sixth inning as Shady Nook took control.
The Rockets, who had won six of their last seven, are 10-14 after the winless weekend.
