The Rockets missed a chance to push their winning streak to double digits. But that was only because Saturday's weather didn't allow them to play.
After their first double-header of the weekend was rained out, Portland was able to get on the field Monday for a 4-0 and 4-2 double-header sweep of the visiting Lima Buckeyes.
The pair of wins at Runkle-Miller Field at Portland Memorial Park push the Rockets' winning streak to eight games. They are 23-6 on the season, surpassing last year's win total of 21.
Garret Wiejak keyed the opening victory over the Buckeyes with a dominating performance on the mound. He gave up just three hits while striking out nine in six shutout innings.
Jay County High School graduate Josh Shatto finished the game by striking out a pair of batters in a scoreless seventh.
Heath Williams (JCHS) had two of Portland's six hits.
The Rockets compiled all of their game-two offense in the second inning, in which they had five of their seven hits. Jake Carr finished with two hits, including an RBI single.
Mitch Waters went the first six innings, giving up one run on three hits with five strikeouts. Cory Murray earned the save.
