Roessner, Stein lead Indians (04/22/03)

Vicki Roessner and Holly Stein had just enough for their team to outduel Allison Fullenkamp and Amanda Johnson.

The athletes from Fort Recovery and East Jay won eight of the 11 individual events in a three-way meet along with Union City Monday as the Indians took the victory with 53 points. The Chiefs were just behind with 50 points, and Union City scored 42 points.

Union City won the boys meet with 58.5 points. East Jay scored 46, and Fort Recovery had 42.5.

Roessner had the biggest day, winning three events for Fort Recovery while Stein followed with two victories. She won both hurdle events, leading a one-two Indian finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.20 in front of Sandra Sudhoff, and took the 200-meter hurdles in 32.58.

She was also victorious in the 200-meter dash, winning ahead of teammate Heather Schmackers.

Stein took care of the throwing events, placing first in front of teammate Sam Staugler in the shot put with a distance of 30 feet, six inches. She also took the discus with a toss of 85 feet, 10 inches.

Fullenkamp picked up two of East Jay’s three individual victories. The Chiefs were also first in the 1600-meter relay and the 800-meter relay.

Fullenkamp topped a one-two-three finish in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:47.26. Whitney Homan placed second and Johnson was was third.

Fullenkamp also won the 400-meter run.

Johnson earned the other win for East Jay, taking the 1600-meter run in 6:20.98.

Kaleb Carpenter paced an East Jay sweep in the high jump, winning the event at a height of 5 feet, two inches. Michael Jobe followed in second, Alex Michael was third and Casey Waters placed fourth.

Justin Hall led a one-two Chiefs finish in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:46.59 ahead of teammate Clint Muhlenkamp. Corey Comer added a win in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet, three inches, and East Jay also won the 1600-meter relay.

Fort Recovery had a sweep of its own in the pole vault, with Bruce Schoen placing first at a height of six feet, nine inches. Matt Vagedes was second and Scott Hein placed third, each at a height of six feet, eight inches.

Eric Lamm picked up the other two Indian victories. He was first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01, and won the 800-meter run in 2:39.

West Jay victorious

The West Jay track teams cruised past Monroe Central Monday. The boys team scored a 66-34 victory while the girls team pulled away with a 58-42 win.

Ryan Sutton had a pair of individual wins to lead the boys team. He was first in the 100-meter dash in 12.85, and won the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 9.5 inches.

Brandon Buckland and Andy Hughes continued a solid effort for the Eagles in the field events. Hughes led a sweep in the discus with a toss of 85 feet, two inches, and Buckland paced a sweep in the high jump at a height of four feet, six inches.

Don McCowan won the hurdles with a time of 20.73, Sean Hatzell took the 400-meter run in 1:04 and Josh Selvey was first in the 800-meter run in 2:35. West Jay also took first in the 400-meter relay and the 1600-meter relay.

Jessica Mosier set the pace for the girls team with a pair of individual victories. She took the 1600-meter run in 6:27 and won the 800-meter run in 2:56.

Brittany O’Dell took first in the 100-meter dash in 14.4, Trisha Champ won the 200-meter run in 30.6 and Lindsey Current led a sweep of the high jump at four feet. West Jay also won the 400-meter relay and the 1600-meter relay.[[In-content Ad]]
