PORTLAND — South Adams was the best team in the Hoosier Conference. At least, it was until Wednesday night.

The Jay County High Rollers bowling team went on a record-breaking frenzy at the Brown Bowl in Portland as they topped South Adams 12-8 to forge a tie atop the conference standings.

The girls team cruised to an 18-2 victory over Blackford.

Jay County’s boys, which are now tied for first place with South Adams at 6-2, broke team records for single game and total team score. Cory Mock carried that effort by breaking individual records for high game and series.

The High Rollers started off on fire with the record game for a 1,122-952 victory, taking nine out of 10 team points. The previous record of 1,118 was set earlier this season.

They lost the second game 1,064-1,046, but managed three team points to grab the win.

Despite falling in the second game, the 2,168 total pin count for Jay County broke the team record by 36 pins. That mark was set by the 2003-04 team, which was a semi-state qualifier and regional champion.

Mock had the outstanding effort for the night, knocking down every pin in his second game for a 290 score. He had a spare in the first frame, then threw 11 straight strikes.

Senior Preston Shoopman added a 469 series, and fellow senior Cody Wright had a 438 series.

The girls team took nine out of 10 points in each game. They won 722-607 in the first and 768-592 in the second.

Sarah Mescher paced the effort with a 307 series. Lauren Spahr rolled a 247.

Jay County’s junior varsity squad defeated the Huntington North girls junior varsity team 16-4. They took nine out of 10 team points in the first game by a 858-648 score, and won the second 775-692 to complete the victory.

Evan Eley led the way with a 342, and Andrew Storie had a 324.[[In-content Ad]]
