Ronald graduates from law school
Taking Note
Sara “Sally” Ronald received her Juris Doctor degree Saturday during recognition ceremonies at Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law in Bloomington.
A 2004 graduate of Jay County High School, she received her bachelor’s degree in Russian and Slavic studies from IU in 2008 and pursued a graduate degree in Eastern European studies before law school.
The daughter of Jack and Connie Ronald, Portland, she will begin a two-year fellowship in the office of IU’s general counsel in August.
College success
Jay County was recently recognized for working to increase the percentage of Hoosiers with education beyond high school with the Indiana College Success County award.
Jay was among 26 Indiana counties honored by Teresa Lubbers, Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education, at an awards ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse.
The counties are members of Indiana’s College Success Coalition, a statewide network focused on improving college access and success.
Each county will receive a road sign proclaiming it an Indiana College Success County to be prominently displayed on a major road.
Graduates
Lauren Haggenjos, Portland, graduated from the University of Evansville on May 4. She received a bachelor’s degree in theatre education.
Art classes
The Arts in the Parks program will offer classes for children in Jay County and Fort Recovery again this summer.
The program is offered by Arts Place in Portland and Arts Place Collective Center in St. Marys, Ohio.
Registration forms are available at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St. or the Collective Center at 142 E. Spring St. or online at www.artsland.org.

Library events
Friends of Jay County Public Library will have Coffee with Friends on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. There will be coffee and donuts in the Community Room. Stop by to chat, sip coffee or read the newspaper.
Senior Reads will have its first meeting on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the library for those 55 and older.
The book discussion group for seniors will decide the books to read in upcoming months and how the group should operate.
