Ronald to speak on Burma
Taking Note
Jack Ronald, president, editor and publisher of The Commercial Review, will present a gallery talk on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Arts Place in Portland in conjunction with its “Children of Burma” exhibit.
Ronald recently returned from Burma where he spent a month as a Fulbright Senior Specialist, training journalists for the country’s parliamentary election.
He will discuss the current political state of Burma and its future.
Loblolly events
Two events will be held Saturday, May 5, at the Loblolly Marsh after a brief presentation at Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva.
Participants should meet at 9:30 a.m. at the cabin located on U.S. 27 in Geneva. A brief history of the Limberlost wetlands will be given.
Everyone will then travel to the Loblolly Marsh located on 250 West, three miles west of Bryant. From 10 until 11:30 a.m., a Limberlost naturalist will point out native plants, flowers and animals and discuss Gene Stratton-Porter’s legacy.
The program “Creature Feature” will begin at noon at the Loblolly Pavilion at the marsh. There will be a discussion on snakes including a chance to use real snake handling equipment on a rubber snake and a chance to touch live snakes.
The cost is $2 for each event and light refreshments will be provided.
For more information, call Curt Burnette at (260) 368-7428 or email [email protected].
