Roughriders shut out Jay County

ST. MARYS, Ohio — The Patriots struggled on their trip across the state line.
The Jay County High School baseball team managed just three hits Thursday in a 12-0, five-inning loss to the host Memorial Roughriders.
Memorial grabbed the lead with three runs in the first inning and added five in the second. It scored twice each in the third and fourth as it ended the game early.
Ty Huntsman suffered the loss, giving up eight runs on six hits and four walks in 1 2/3 innings. Landry Inman allowed four runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Devin Conatser had two of the three hits for the Patriots, who dropped to 8-5.
Jason Houston added a single.
Boys golf loses
HARTFORD CITY — Evan Mathias earned medalist honors Thursday, but Jay County suffered a 174-182 loss to the host Blackford Bruins.
Mathias got off to a hot start with a birdie on the 488-yard, par-5 first hole at Ki-Ann Golf Course. He added pars on three of the next five holes on the way to shooting a 40.

Blake Thiery and Aaron Beal shared the top score for Blackford at 41.
Justen Keller parred the opening hole for the Patriots (2-3) on the way to a 46. Dylan Friddle and Mitchel Rigby also had one par apiece as they shot 47 and 49 respectively.
Adam Alfont finished with a 52.
JCHS dropped the junior varsity competition 197-208 with Richie Carducci turning in the top score of 47.

JV baseball rolls
Three Patriot pitchers combined on a no-hitter as the Patriots cruised to a 14-0, five-inning victory over the visiting Monroe Central Golden Bears.
Tanner Reynolds got the win as he struck out five batters in three scoreless innings. He also gave up a walk. Andrew McShane had two strikeouts in one inning of work, and Chaz Carroll also tossed one scoreless frame.
Tanner Reynolds led the offense for Jay County (2-7), which took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. He went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
Devon Roosa was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Levi Stand had two hits, two RBIs and a run.[[In-content Ad]]
