Runyon leads victory over Bearcats (02/12/2009)

MUNCIE - Nadlie Runyon picked up a pair of victories for the Jay County High School gymnastics team Wednesday in a 98-275-95-25 victory over the Muncie Central Bearcats.
Runyon, a junior, won the balance beam with an 8.725 and the floor exercise an 8.65. She was also first in the all-around at 34.325 in the gym where the Patriots will return for sectional action in three weeks.
She finished second on both the vault and uneven bars with a score of 8.55 and 8.4 respectively.
Central's Kenya Whitelow won the vault with a 9.05, and Megan Barnes was first on the bars at 8.45.
Kristen Ainsworth was second for JCHS on the floor with an 8.6 and third on the beam with an 8.175. Stormi Metcalf added a third-place effort on the vault at 8.45, and scored a 7.55 on the bars.
Also scoring for the Patriots were Lexie Rowles (vault - 8.35), Kyli Kelso (beam - 8.025), Shelby Pryor (floor - 7.75) and Lindsay Moser (bars - 7.05).
Chiefs top HC
The East Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball team evened its record Wednesday with a 27-24 win over Hartford City.
Zach Pryor led the Chiefs (5-5) to the victory with eight points. Jalen Ryder added seven points.
In the B team game Alex Krieg scored seven points to lead EJMS to a 26-11 win.
WJMS scores split
West Jay Middle School's sixth grade girls basketball team defeated Montpelier 29-17 Wednesday night. It also played Hartford City, suffering a 28-18 defeat.
Tyra Westlake scored nine points to lead the Eagles over Montpelier. Breea Holdcroft added six points.
Dakotah Chambers had six points in the loss to Hartford City.
Two win all-around
INDIANAPOLIS - Four athletes from Portland's Flip 360 Gymnastics won events and two finished first in the all-around competition Monday at the Fitness and Fun meet in Indianapolis.
Lizzy Schoenlein took the top spot in the uneven bars, balance bam and floor exercise for a winning Level 7 all-around total of 36.425. Alexis Murrell won the prep options all-around at 35.675 with victories on the floor and vault.
Courtney Miles took first place on the Level 6 floor with a 9.2, and Katie Snyder was first on the Level 8 vault at 9.1. Halle Hill was the Level 4 vault runner-up with a 9.35.[[In-content Ad]]
