SA finishes 7th at Hokum Karem

FORT WAYNE — None of the Starfire duos made the top 10, but they still finished in the middle of the pack as a team.
The South Adams High School cross country team posted a time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, 56 seconds, to finish seventh out of 14 teams at Tuesday’s Snider Hokum-Karem.
The Starfires were just over a minute behind sixth-place Northfield at the event, in which male and female pairs run the course in a relay format. Northridge won by nearly two minutes over Concordia in 1:49:34.
Brody Shane and Kristen Muselman made up the top pair for SAHS as they finished in 14th place with a time of 28:14. Simon Sprunger and Katelin Hawbaker were 27th in 29:43.
Joel Hawbaker and Aleesha Goodwin posted a time of 30:11 for 36th place, and Cody Sprunger and Allison Amstutz were 60th in 31:21.

FR golfers fourth
CELINA — The Fort Recovery boys golf team posted a score of 401 Tuesday to place fourth out of six teams at the Mercer County Invitational.
Parkway won the event at Mercer County Elks Golf Club by 12 strokes over Celina with a score of 326.
Elijah Kahlig was the lone Indian to break 90 as he set the pace with an 87. Kent Retz followed with a 94, Chase Bruns shot 109 and Derek Backs completed the team score with a 111.
Josh Pohl shot 115, and Stew Alig finished at 120.
In junior varsity action, Gabe Muhlenkamp posted a 117 as Fort Recovery finished fifth at 498.

Falcon netters top Stars
WINCHESTER — South Adams’ boys tennis team struggled in its season opener Tuesday, falling 5-0 to the Winchester Golden Falcons.
The No. 1 doubles pair of Dylan Pierce and Landon Lehman played the closest match for the Starfires as they fell 6-3, 6-2 to Winchester seniors Jack Roberts and Jalen Cox. Jared Rife and Blake Baumer lost 6-1, 6-3 to Noah Addington and Isaiah Davis at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Brayden Myers fell 6-1, 6-0 to Dustin Detro at No. 1, Dexter Miller lost 6-1, 6-2 to Gavin Cox at No. 2 and Cole Myers suffered a shutout defeat against Avery Walker at No. 3.
South Adams dropped the junior varsity match 2-1. Cody Baker picked up its lone win 6-1 over Tristen Henchon at No. 2 singles.

SA girls soccer blanked
BERNE — South Adams could not get its offense going Tuesday as it fell 9-0 to the visiting Norwell Knights.
Norwell scored four times in the opening half and never slowed down. It limited the Starfires to just two shots on goal.
Sophomore Alaina Johnston and Sharon Balsiger recorded the only two shots for SAHS. Johnston finished with 13 saves, and Jordan Brown made six.[[In-content Ad]]
