SA golfers finish second
SAHS roundup
DECATUR - The South Adams High School boys golf team finished second Saturday in a three-team match hosted by Bellmont at Cross Creek Golf Course.
The host Braves took the win with a 170 with the Starfires (194) second and Adams Central (223) third.
Mark Smith turned in the best score for South Adams with a 44, and Alex Habegger added a 49. Mark Muselman shot 50, and Stuart Poulson completed the team score with a 51.
Daniel Heckard shot 54.
Lions top softball
LEO - A one-run Starfire lead disappeared in the sixth inning Thursday as SAHS fell 4-1 to the Leo Lions.
South Adams (5-5, 1-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) took the lead with a run in the fourth inning before the Lions (6-4, 2-1 ACAC) tallied all of their runs in the sixth.
Katrina Hawkins took the loss, giving up the four runs on eight hits in six innings.
Tori Smith singled and scored the lone Starfire run, and Karen Bollenbacher added a double. Brianna Nevil had an RBI.
Baseball drops two
South Adams lost its last two games 16-3 in five innings Wednesday to Heritage and 11-0 Tuesday to Southwood.
Heritage scored six times in the first inning and seven in the third as it took a 16-0 lead before the Starfires got on the board in the fifth. Southwood scored three times in the first inning and rolled as it limited SAHS to just three hits.
Taylor LeFever had the big hit for South Adams against Heritage, following up an RBI single from Gabe Sprunger with a two-run triple in the fifth inning. John Striker had a double in Tuesday's defeat.
Nick Batt took the loss against Heritage, and Dustin Wanner suffered the defeat against Southwood. The Starfires committed seven errors in the two games, allowing 11 unearned runs.[[In-content Ad]]
