FORT WAYNE - North Side or South Side, it just didn't matter Thursday.
South Adams got the best of both Fort Wayne Schools, winning a three-way girls golf match at McMillen Golf Course with a score of 204. North Side was a close second at 208, and South Side finished at 255.
Amber Melick carried the Starfires to the win with a 41, which was 9-over-par on the course with four par threes on the back nine. Alyssa Neuenschwander followed Melick with a 52, and Kara Lehman shot 53.
Tricia Crider rounded out the South Adams team score with a 58, and Grace Dobler was one shot back at 59.
The Starfires lost to Bishop Luers Tuesday, 177-216. Melick had the top score at 48 followed by Crider (50), Neuenschwander (55), Lehman (63) and Dobler (66).
Knights edge tennis
BERNE - The top two singles players did their jobs Thursday, but no other Starfires could pull off a victory as the boys tennis team fell 3-2 to the Bishop Luers Knights.
Both victories for South Adams were hard fought, as senior Brett Wagner and sophomore Chase Ingle each dropped their first set before rallying.
Wagner lost 6-4 in his opening set against Brett Schuhler, but bounced back and won the match in a third-set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). Ingle dropped his first set in a tiebreaker, but dominated the next two against Evan Klerner for a 6-7 (5-7) 6-1, 6-3 win.
In the other singles match, Kegan Sprunger of the Starfires lost 6-0, 6-2 to to Nathan Hoeffel. Landyn Waugh and Kyle Schmidt lost to Mike Scher and Steve Kelso 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Jacob Smith and Reid Zurcher fell 6-2, 6-1 to Max Hall and Jacob Kuhn in the No. 2 doubles match.
Norwell downs volleyball
OSSIAN - The Norwell Knights proved too much for South Adams Tuesday, dropping them by at least 12 points in each game for a 25-12, 25-11, 25-13 volleyball victory.
Andrew Moser and Hali Feaster each had six digs to lead the Starfire defense. Jacie Yoder finished with nine assists, and Karen Bollenbacher finished with three kills.[[In-content Ad]]
