SA runners shine at Bi-County

BLUFFTON — The Starfires came up just three points short of a sweep.
Eric Isch won the individual boys race Saturday at the Bi-County cross country meet to lead South Adams to victory. Hannah Moore took the top spot in the girls race as the Starfires finished second just behind Norwell.
The SAHS boys scored 29 points to outdistance Norwell (45). In the girls competition, Norwell edged the Starfires 30-33.
Isch and Moore both turned in solid victories, with Isch finishing in first by eight seconds in 16 minutes, 36 seconds. Moore earned a 23-second win with her time of 20:27.
Evan Liechty finished fourth for the boys team in 17:11. Brody Shane was sixth in 17:20 followed by Joel Hawbaker (eighth - 17:38) and Simon Sprunger (10th - 17:53).
Sawyer Shane was the No. 2 runner for the South Adams girls in fifth at 21:10. Jenna Smith finished sixth in 21:12, Kristen Muselman was seventh in 21:16 and Allison Amstutz placed 14th with a time of 22:32.

Jay goes 0-3
MUNCIE — Jay County’s boys tennis team dropped all three of its matches Saturday at the Muncie Invitational.

The Patriots fell 4-1 to Northeastern and 5-0 to Muncie Central and Mount Vernon.
The lone win of the day came from Joe Imel and Drew Wood, who also picked up the only victory in Jay County’s dual match with Northeastern Thursday. They knocked off the Knights’ No. 2 doubles team again, 7-5, 6-4.
Brad Leuthold went to a super tiebreaker in his No. 1 singles match against Northeastern, but fell 5-7, 6-4 (10-6). Landry Inman also forced a super tiebreaker at No. 3 singles against Mount Vernon, but fell short by a 6-1, 2-6 (10-5) score.
The Patriots are 1-6 on the season.

Starfires split
FORT WAYNE — The South Adams boys tennis team finished with a split Saturday, defeated Fort Wayne North Side 5-0 and falling to Fort Wayne South Side 3-2.
No. 1 singles player Alex Huber and the No. 2 doubles team of Ian Frank and Derek Schwartz were each perfect on the day. They combined to give up just one game against North Side, and then fourth for their victories against South Side. Huber won a tiebreaker before winning 6-0 in the second set against Antonio Gooden of the Archers, and Frank and Schwartz rallied from a first-set loss to top Evan VanSumeren and Andy Fenstermacher in a super tiebreaker.
Against North Side, Mark Muselman won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Reid Zurcher posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory and No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Kegan Sprunger and Scott Hoeppner won 6-1, 7-5.[[In-content Ad]]
